Everyday Heroes

The American Red Cross is looking for ordinary individuals who have demonstrated an act of heroism.

We want to pay tribute to these individuals at our Everyday Heroes event, honoring those persons who have shown courage, kindness, and unselfish character by their acts of heroism in the Monroe County area.

Nominees must meet the following criteria to be considered for the Everyday Heroes Awards. An advisory committee of community members will select the winners. All nominees will be invited to the Everyday Heroes Dinner set for March 6 ,2008.

  1. The nominees must have been a resident or employed within Monroe County, or the heroic act must have taken place in Monroe County.
  2. The act of heroism must have taken place between January 1, 2007 and December 31, 2007.
  3. The nominee must fall into one of the award categories:
    • Fire (Paid or Volunteer)
    • Law Enforcement (Paid or Volunteer)
    • Medical Professional Hero
    • Adult Good Samaritan
    • Youth Good Samaritan (under 21)
    • Animal Rescue (Person or animal)
    • Workplace Good Samaritan
    • Local Military Hero
    • Community Hero
    • Labor/Union Hero
  4. There must be a specific incident. Give complete details of the incident.
  5. Completed applications due by January 11, 2008.
